Nope.  They aren't saleable.  Nobody wants to take it over or pay you that pot of gold you were counting on.

Why is that?  There are lots of reasons.  And every one of them takes root in decisions you make every day in your company .  

Decisions that determine whether your company seamlessly changes ownership, and delivers meaningful value (aka: cash) to you, or not, whether you want to exit in two years or twenty.

The heartbreaking part of that reality is that it doesn't have to be that way.

ABOUT MARTHA

Martha Sullivan is a family business advisor, recovering-CPA, certified exit planning and value growth advisor, and business consultant who helps established  privately held business owners build sustainable companies that will transition for generations so they can chase their next adventure and meet their financial goals.   

Most business owners wrestle with the overlapping responsibilities that come with management and ownership of the company. Running a company is different from building one that consistently grows its top line, net income, and overall valuation simultaneously.   When you focus only on revenue or profit, you may not have value.  Martha helps companies understand and focus on value so they may have all three.

Martha is a Consultant with The Family Business Consulting Group and she is the founder and President of Provenance Hill Consulting, which is the culmination of her journey from an information-systems professional to rebellious CPA to exit planning and value growth expert.  

She has had the honor of being a non-family executive in two family-owned companies, COO of a 100-person professional services firm and consulted with many more privately held companies.  Her work includes business turnarounds, leadership development, financial systems management, mergers, and acquisitions, and growing vibrant, valuable, and transferable businesses.
